I have Mac OS 10.6.7 and in my mail program certain emails show up with weird characters. They look like squares with A's in them. Its not in every email. The email renders fine on my ipod touch. Anyone else experience this?

I can't figure out what is going on here. When I close my pb briefly after i open it i need to push a key to wake it up. But when I close it for a while it wakes up on its own and the keyboard light turns on. Any ideas as to whats going on.

Thank you. You specifically answered what I was asking. I figured this was the case but wanted the facts from someone using DP2.

I dont see why they wont have FM radio on the 4G.... unless they want it to be unique to the Nano only.... but it would help compete against Zune....
hehehehe my apple fanboyness came out and said ZUNE COMPETES WITH iPODS?:apple:FTW HEHEE

I have a 4 year old white Macbook with 2 Gb of ram running Snow Leopard that I just did the most recent automatic software update from 10.6.6 to 10.6.7 along with other updates for iTune and my printer, etc.
It reached the point where it says "Registering updated components..." and it got stuck - no more progress bar movement for 20 minutes. I powered off the machine holding down the on/off button. It rebooted ok and the applications work fine, but when i shut in down it got stuck again. Again I had to power it off by holding down the on/off button. It started up fine afterwards.
Something obviously is no longer right, but I don't know what to do next. Any suggestions? (Yes I have a current backup of all files before the software update)
The backups, are they time machine or just normal back ups of individual files?
If they are time machine, try doing a restore. If its just individual files, try doing a clean install from your Snow Leopard disk and then download the Combo update from apples website and then put your files back

On WWDC Eve, we at TUAW are hard at work keeping an eye out for the unknown and unexpected. We just received a tip showing what appears to be the Mac Nano computer that we've all wanted -- and it looks to be aimed towards the developer crowd.
The pictures appear to show a Mac geared towards developers on Windows and Linux systems. "Leave Windows behind. Build your Apps for OS X" states the title. While we are extremely cautious about rumors like these right before WWDC, we did have a rumor that a "new Mac" or at least an updated Mac might be released.

If anyone comes here looking for an answer to something similar, I solved my issue to my satisfaction.
Looking back over what I did, I noticed I hadn't compiled ffmpeg with libfaac enabled. After doing so, I find that the following converts the mts to mp4 with 160kb/s aac audio (the ac3 source is 192kb/s), no distortion:
ffmpeg -i <file>.mts -vcodec copy -ab 160k <file>.mp4
Since it's just a point-and-shoot camera, I realized I'm not missing much converting from ac3 to aac, so a single aac audio stream is good enough.

I'm in the exact same situation. I just want to so I can have the newest cool thing. There, I said it! :D
But seriously, If I end up not being able to snag an iPhone on launch day, then I want the new os until I can get one.

You could script this with ffmpeg. If you have that installed you can just run a simple script like this (assuming all m4a are in one dir, otherwise I'd just make symlinks in one dir)
for fn in *.m4a; do
echo "converting $fn"
songName=$(echo "$fn"|rev|cut -c5-|rev|sed s/\ /_/g)
ffmpeg -i "$fn" ${songName}.ogg
done

ffmpeg -i "$fn" ${songName}.ogg

Actually, turns out you can't share your AirPort while connected to a wireless network. You can only set the AirPort card to communicate with the wireless network OR create a wireless network of it's own, not both.
Great. I wanted to play online with my Nintendo DS, but it can only understand WEP security, not WAP, and I'm not going to turn my basestation back to WEP.

So I feel like changing the back of my black iPhone 4 amidst all of the white iPhone excitement to a white back (the white front doesn't do much for me). How do the back white parts that have been on the market for months compare to the real white iPhone 4? Same richness and quality?

Switch off the OS while reading the book and if it can not be done then simply clean the fan and blow inside the system. Every thing will be fine.

when this app is running, is it constantly streaming data usage? i have a couple of chats going, just started using a couple of days ago. and for the first time i got a warning from Att then im at 70% of my usage for the month.
my internet has been down at home, so no wifi - but didnt think that would make much of a difference, this is the only app i can think of that would make this drastic of a change

No Gilmour, no soul. :(
I know Gilmour wasn't a founding member, but Pink Floyd is not Pink Floyd without their lead guitarist.

I was hoping someone could let me know if they have the Frank Sinatra 24x36 Think Different Poster. This is the one where he is standing in a grey suit in front of a mic and a music stand. Thank you for anyone's help!
I would try eBay. I see them every now and then. Anywhere from $89.00 to $200 is what they usually go for. Make sure you get one without any pinholes or lamination, I have seen those too. You want one that has been kept and will ship to you in a storage tube. Good luck!

Higher MBP is great for HD video editing.
Does he need high resolution screen in glossy or Antiglare?
Get 8GB of RAM yourself.
