My late 2006 2GHz C2D Macbook has had a host of weird issues lately. Small issues started cropping up right after AppleCare expired, and it has only gotten worse. It started with the palmrest cracking worse that it ever has before (it was replaced 3 times). Then my sleep LED stopped working. Then the LED on my charger stopped working -- and it doesn't seem to be a charger issue, as it has this problem with ANY charger, including the new style ones.
The last few days, it has been randomly rebooting itself. No warning, no way to reliably reproduce the issue. Also, the audio crapped out earlier while watching a Flash video. I had to yoink out my speaker cable and put it back in to get it working. If it makes any difference, I've been using it in clamshell mode a lot lately.
I'm assuming it's probably a bad logic board, but does anyone have any other ideas?

Seriously - you tout Macs on your work place the way that JWs try to convert people? Or is it your colleagues who try to make you throw your Mac out the window the way they are tempted to do with their computers?
Assuming the latter case is the fact: It would be interesting to know which OS your colleagues use. If they use Windows, you can tell them that if they want to be elitist, they should at least use Linux. And if they already use Linux, you can tell them to use real UNIX instead of the clone (Mac OS X is BSD).

You need to get the MPEG2 update for QT 6.3 if you haven't already got it, the MPEG2 componant for 6.2 doesn't work with 6.3, run Software update.
Assuming you haven't already done that of course:D

Hi there,
I work at a University in the UK and have a few ex departmental machines that were replaced long ago. I was wondering what would be the best thing to do with them? It would kill me to simply throw them out but they can't stay here as we need the space!
We have mostly G3 iMacs, the ones with the slot-loading CD drives. 333MHz I think.
We also have 2 Powerbook 1400s - I can get the full specs of all the machines if necessary.
Any ideas?

Today I got my first Mac, a Powermac G4. It has no DVD drive so I installed one from an old PC. The computer recognizes the drive and will play CDs from it, but it cannot read DVDs.
Is there an update that I can install to allow my G4 to read DVDs?
running OS X 10.3.9
trying to use Asus 16X max DVD-ROM
Thanks.

Are you jailbroken?
If so then go to cydia, and search for an app i believe to be called "volumeboost 3.0" if you are unable to find it, then search "boost" and you may be able to find something with a very similar title. it increases all of the volume on almost every part of the iPod, i assume it works with the alarm volume as well.
Need any help just ask

Lossless is half the size of uncompressed. AAC is at least 10 times smaller than uncompressed. If you have 8 GB now, expect it to balloon to 65GB using lossless.

I'm serious. There is nothing like Foobar for OS X. Well... I guess there is VLC.
That is all I can think of. The reason there is no wide variety on OS X is because iTunes is pretty much the best, even if it is bloated and doesn't play some higher quality formats.

... This sounds like a recipe for an intervention by the companys notoriously active and humorless legal department, which killed the ber realistic Steve Jobs action figure (doll) and has generally taken a dim view of products that use Apples proprietary 30-pin USB connector.
...
Yeah, Apple has really gone after all those manufacturers who have built iPod accessories with the dock connector. Now, if there are licensing issues that this company didn't address, that's one thing, but Apple has been more than happy to allow third-parties to extend the capabilities of its devices. "iPod ecosystem" ring any bells.

I got the CD out by spamming the CD-out key thing
Now all it does is show a blinking map on a white background, with a question sign inside of it. Im afraid windows overwrote macOS, to be honest im boiling right now because im terrified all my schoolwork, files, photo and everything is gone if i try to reinstall macOS. Does anyone know what to do? :(
