Ok, I had a thread about my slower Dell Inspiron 1545 , which I have no idea why it began to break down after only a year. I stated that I may also be upgrading to a MacBook later this year, but my question is , will an external hard drive really be worth it, and will it help keep up the speed and performance of my machines, possibly fixing this damn dell.
Why on earth would an external hard drive speed up anything? If you need a ton of storage, a backup drive (say for Time Machine, extra music/videos/etc), or just want some insurance against hard drive failure, get an external drive.
But buying one and hooking it up to the Dell or a new MBP isn't going to do anything to make them faster, and it certainly won't fix a year old Dell that's breaking down.
I've yet to buy a PC notebook that has lasted for over a year. It seems like the day that year warranty expires is when they break down. Hard drive failure, hardware issues, etc. That's why I switched to a Mac, which has been going strong since I got it.
Take the money you'd spend on a hard drive and put it towards a MBP. It's a much better investment, as I guarantee the Dell will only get worse.

I've got a wired Mighty Mouse I have no need for. It's barely used, which means the scroll ball is very clean. I'm looking to sell this for $20 shipped. I accept PayPal and will ship to the lower 48 states in the US. If you want me to ship it elsewhere, you will need to cover the extra expenses.
Send a PM my way if you're interested.

Today I finally got my Verizon iPhone 4 so I almost immediately went to the Apple store to pick up a Pixelskin HD. I pretty much disregarded the price and got it, along with the matte screen protectors from the store. Later on in the day, my friend shows me the case he has for his iPhone 4 (TPU case from eBay, I believe made by Amzer), and that it was much cheaper than the Pixelskin ($7 vs $30). Would it be better to just return the Pixelskin HD and get a TPU case from eBay? Or is the Pixelskin more worth its bigger price tag? Thanks!

The quad core i7 15"/17" MBPs would be significantly faster than the dual core i5/i7 13" MBPs for transcoding video DVDs. But a 13" MBP would be fast enough (one 2h film per hour), unless you don't have time to wait.

Not a bad idea. what about those who imported their entire music collection and not purchased it off itunes...should/would they be able to 'fetch' that content?

well, apparently 4.3.2 is still being signed. So I removed tinyumbrella from the loop entirely and just did a normal update

Quick Question. I was wondering if anyone know what language is used to write generators for Final Cut Pro. The program uses normal plug ins like blur, levels and so on. But it also has an area where you can select Generators to add text, gradients, solid colors. Would it be a scripting language or objective-C?
I edit with FCP all the time and I would like to make a Slate Generator for myself. I doubt I can do it in Pascal :)
Thanks
-Lars
Take what I say with a grain of salt but it may give you a place to start until someone with more knowledge arrives, but I thought generators were generally created with Quartz composer.

So, all you have is multiple versions of a single?
Anyway, I went and downloaded the original version on Itunes, and it sounds pretty trippin' ;)
ah now you see when the single got released I had two people remix it, like say deadmau5 or daftpunk would release a single.
My next single is more an e.p., which will contain two original songs "Control Freak" and "Funk Box" the radio edits of these two and also a remix of each..... This one is currently in the mastering house and is looking at a mid - late December release. I will update you all closer to the time with this one.....
PEACE OUT.....

Transcoding is the same as "converting", as the source video and audio gets converted to another format, often leading to another codec for video and audio. Handbrake will transcode the video and audio too.
Maybe have a look at MPEG Streamclip (http://www.squared5.com/) to split audio from video, but transcoding is involved in this too.

I made a category "Interconnects" also.
Thats redundant for ports, but probably okay for such things as Infiniband, etc...
BTW, what happened to the formatting on the Category:Ports (http://guides.macrumors.com/Category:Ports) page? Why is it separating the S's like that, and making it a weird grid instead of a simple list of articles??
Also, why when forwarding the Ports (http://guides.macrumors.com/Ports) page to the Category:Ports does it not show the entire category?

how much do these two cost? surely they are not free are they?
I've no idea how much they cost. My access is provided 'free' of charge by my university. If the OP is in university in the States, it almost certain that his/ her school provides access for its students.

As much as i want to make you a low offer and hope you take it i'm going to be honest :p
Recently, the TAM's have been going up in value, on eBay.
Take a look at this one to get an idea http://cgi.ebay.com/Twentieth-Anniversary-Macintosh-TAM-20th-Apple-/130419073089?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0
You say that yours has all the original stuff and has been upgraded, that is basically a gold mine, you could easily get upwards of $1000 on eBay, most likely more than that.
Could you post pictures for us to see, as a fellow TAM owner i love these machines to death and i would love to see one like yours with all the original stuff.
Where are you located, if your near me i might be interested in it.

You can tell by the subject line that this is a very "classic" computer. :)
I recently inherited this machine from a co-worker who had it passed down to him, etc. As far as I can tell nobody has attempted to boot it. It is missing the keyboard and mouse but I thought that turning it on would at least give me some sort of error beeps, codes, unhappy face. However, when I flipped the switch all I can hear is the fans, and I believe I also hear the HD but beyond that nothing. No video is displayed (black) and I can't find any other indication of what's wrong.
I realize this is probably a lost cause but I thought I'd post here anyway in hopes that someone has an idea.
Thanks for your help.

Hey I just want to clarify, that you will not be able to control your car stereo iPhone controls when connected through the Juice Pack. I thought you just were wondering if it would charge the phone in the car while connected to the Juice Pack, so I wanted to follow up just to clarify.
Thanks,
Nick

Or am I just crazy in trying to do this?
*cough cough*
Your closest bet is hoping that the wireless USB Hub is compatible with the X-Box 360. Belkin makes one, I believe. Not 100% sure if it works nor do I think it even will. If it somehow magically works out, expect to spend $200 on the hub alone.
Try to impress me though. I quite like my wireless PS2 Guitar Hero controller. I don't understand why they could've just made a wireless controller with a USB dongle and get around Microsoft's proprietary wireless restrictions. Maybe Red Octane is saving that for later?

Thanks so much for your help guys.
Much appreciated.
I gave the colour correction a go but couldn't get it exactly the way I wanted it. Then decided it was slightly quirky.
If you have time, check out the final product here. http://vimeo.com/21958811
See if you can spot where I was talking about!
Many thanks.
