Is anybody surprise by this?
Seriously we knew this all along.
Plus, what surprises me is that Microsoft did no TV advertising for the Zune at all. So many people out there have no idea it even exists.
Zune has no chance until they have an integration like ipod and itunes have. Maybe in Vista they will have a chance to get that but my feeling is too late for them.
Apple will not let down and I am pretty sure before spring we'll see updates across the ipod line and maybe finally the widescreen ipod.

I am very excited about this year, but apple will be smart not to do too much in one show. I mean how many surprises and new products can they release at one time before the public gets overwhelmed or exhausted (i.e. the dinosaur sequence in king kong)? I think they will focus on a few special things, probably not the phone though.

Does Consumer Reports stop recommending automobile purchases? Because you know if there is an issue with a car, the manufacturer will issue a recall. If you are affected, you have to take it into a dealer where it will be fixed. The onus is on the owner of the car, for crying out loud! The auto manufacturers should go house to house providing the fix for free to all cars, whether their owners report a problem or not!

Yeah, if it's $9.99 to rent, it's going to fail. $1.99, might be worth it. I'm sure a lot of people will be happy, then a lot of people will complain. Both with have good points, but the rest of us won't care.
i wouldnt even pay a $1.99 if the resolution is the same as the current video content on iTunes... HORRID!

The 3 days/3 plays thing is kinda bunk, but the wifi sharing in the first place is a pretty neat idea. How many of you use iTunes sharing at work or in the dorm? Wouldn't it be nice if your iPods could do the same?

My personal opinion is that they will never hit that potential -- Microsoft in the post Gates incarnation has shown a complete inability to focus, and to "get" the current trends. Realistically all their big successes were pre-Ballmer, and even the XBOX owes more to Halo than it does to any brilliant positioning on the part of MS.
But as far as all out Microsoft bashing, what would one expect on a forum dedicated to Apple?

That's because in the US most of us drive on two types of roads, crowded ones and dead straight ones. Automatics are superior on crowded ones and it doesn't matter on straight ones.
Yep, when I'm driving in town, I'm always thinking 'I wsh I had an auto'. In the UK however we have some pretty awesome 'A' and 'B' roads, which make the manual worth it. Blasting through the tree's when the roads are quite, taking each corner as it comes it great fun.

It'll be interesting to see what they mean by "New Releases". Does this mean digital movie downloads are released at the same time as the DVD release, or before/after?
Obviously, the most likely answer is the at the same time as the DVD release, but I really wish the studios would think 'outside the box'. Once setup, digital movie downloads could become an enormously profitable market:
- Impulse buying: want to watch a movie? Just one click in iTMS.
- Very low distribution costs.
- Easy to launch globally: no need for marketing campaigns in different regions, just one global marketing campaign online - cheaper.
- It's the best (arguably, the only) option that stands a chance in the fight against piracy.
In fact, it could potentially be a more profitable market than the cinema, so why relegate the download market to trying to squeeze a few last dollars out of 6 month old movies, why not consider releasing the digital download around the same time as the cinema release, if not even before?
For some reason, every time I think of MPAA (or RIAA, or any of the non-US equivalents) executives, I imagine someone huddled underneath their desks with their eyes closed and ears covered, mumbling a prayer that the big, bad internet will go away and make their lives a lot easier and cushier again. These people are so resistant to change they make the Catholic "Yup, world's still flat" Church seem avant garde.

I am hoping that movies and TV shows get offered outside the US on the iTunes store. Steve mentioned that this would be happening in 2007 when he previewed the iTV box. I think many would like to see this sooner than later.

I bet your uplink is still 512k and you could perhaps upgrade to 1M, but that's it. Not very fast compared to B-spec ;) I would value a symmetric 2M/2M line more than asymmetric 12M/1M, but maybe that's just me.
my uplink is 1MB, and I could move to 3MB if I wanted to. But the point is/was that the speeds are going up fast, and there are other uses for WLAN than mere web-surfing.

Does the realistic texture show up only in full screen mode, or is it that way all the time? In a window, I think it might be distracting, but in full screen, I don't think I would mind it.

Microsoft did the right thing: They probably want to use the trademarked term, so they sued Apple to get the trademark invalidated _before_ using it. There is no legal risk for Microsoft there; worst case they lose the court case and have to pay their lawyers and go home, that's it. Amazon did the wrong thing: They just used the trademarked term. They continue using it throughout this lawsuit apparently. So if Amazon loses, this could be very, very expensive for them.

Which means they are ahead of Apple and Google, but they are being sued now, and if anything sticks, this could be very, very expensive. Much more expensive than using "App Store" without Apple's permission.
